Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed today appointed General Birhanu Jula to serve as chief of Army Chief of Staff and former head of Amhara region to serve as spy chief.

In Addition Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen to additionally serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs. The former Foreign Minister Gedu Andargachew is now appointed as national security advisor to the Prime Minister. The former head of Amhara Region Temesgen Tiruneh has become the head of National intelligence service. Commissioner Demelash Gebremichael is appointed to serve as Commissioner of Federal Police.



The reshuffling of officials by Prime Minister Abiy followed this week\s federal government engagement in a military confrontation with the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), Prime Minister Abiy described as, TPLF cliques, fugitives and junta. He also described them as criminal groups. In his latest twit Temesgen said, the choice for the TPLF leaders “is two either to surrender or die”
