Following Saturday’s coup attempt, the Government of Ethiopia today announced appointment of a new army chief of staff, intelligence and ground force.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed the former intelligence head General Adem Mohammed to take over the chief of staff of Ethiopian Army position, which has been vacant after the assassination of General Seare Mekonnen by his bodyguard last Saturday.
The new Ethiopian army Chief of Staff, head General Adem Mohammed, has been working as general director of national intelligence service of Ethiopia appointed by the reformist Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed a year ago.
Commissioner Demelash Gebremichael, is also appointed to serve as general director of the national intelligence service, while Lieutenant General Molla Hailemariam has become commander in chief of Ethiopian Ground Force.
In a related development, Billene Seyoum, press Secretary of the Office Prime Minister told reporters this afternoon that investigation of the Saturday assassinations is underway. So far over 250 suspects are arrested in Amhara and Addis Ababa.
