Ethiopian Army kills three top TPLF leaders

During its military operation near Tekeze River in Tigray Region of Ethiopia, the army has killed three top leaders of Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) who were hiding in a cave.

Those killed during the operation are Seyoum Mesfin, former Foreign Minister who also served as Ethiopian Ambassador in China for close to two decades, and Asmelash Woldesenbet, who is also among the top member of TPLF, according to the information from the National Defense Force of Ethiopia. TPLF was in charge of Tigray region of Ethiopia until it has ordered its militia to attack the northern army command of Ethiopian Army on November 3, 2020 killing many soldiers and stealing heavy artilleries.



In retaliation the Ethiopian Army has been in a counter military attack and liberated most of the cities and towns of Tigray from TPLF within the first three weeks. After completing the major operation, the Ethiopian Government has issued an arrest warrant against the core leaders of the TPLF, which is said will face treason and terrorism charges among others.

Since then the special force of Federal Police and the army has been searching for the leaders of TPLF and has been reporting arresting some of them while killing the rest who refused to surrender. Among those who surrendered include, Abraham Tekeste (PhD), former Ethiopia’s economy Minister, Abbay Woldu, who served as head of TPLF and head of Tigray Region. Sibhat Nega, one of the founders of TPLF, who is accused of masterminding the attack on the northern army command of Ethiopia in Tigray.
