The Government of Ethiopia said it is working to repatriate 1,200 Ethiopian immigrants trapped in the war torn Yemen.
During his weekly briefing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia indicated that preparations are underway in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to take the Ethiopians out of the danger zone and bring back home. Dina Mufti, Spokesperson of the Ministry stated that 1,200 Ethiopian will be returning to Ethiopia from Yemen in the coming weeks.
He also stated that last week Ethiopian Consulate in Beirut has prepared documents for 180 Ethiopians willing to return to Ethiopia. A delegation of the Ministry of Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs was also in Djibouti for two days official visit where he discussed about the safety of Ethiopians in the tiny East African country.
In addition, the Government of Ethiopia has also discussed with King of Saudi Arabia Kingdom about the handling of Ethiopian workers in the Kingdom, according to Mr. Dina, who stated that the government is currently working with different partners to help the returnees finding other means of livelihood.
