Earthquake hits Addis Ababa last night

Last night around 8.10 pm the inhabitants of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia have experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 Richter scale.

No reports of causalities so far. The Institute of Geophysics and Space Science at Addis Ababa University has confirmed that the shock felt in various parts of Addis Ababa were a result of an earthquake that struck Fentale, Awash-Metehara, Oromia Region.

According to Dr. Elias Lewi, the institute’s director, who spoke to Fana BC, the earthquake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale and occurred in the Fentale mountain area of Awash Metehara, approximately 150 kilometers away from the capital.

Dr. Lewi reassured residents that there was no actual earthquake in Addis Ababa itself and emphasized that the event poses no threat to the city’s population.
