Ethiopia, China to jointly build communications satellite

The governments of Ethiopia and China ink a deal that allows them to jointly build a communications and broadcast satellite.

Officials of Ethiopian Space Science Institute and China Rocket Company have signed the deal this morning in Addis Ababa. The satellite set to be built in Ethiopia is expected to use 50 percent local input, according to the offcial FB report of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia. The report stated that Ethiopian professionals who will be involved in building the satellite are said will have the opportunity from the Chinese expertise.



It is also indicated that coordination, identifying the potential users of the satellite and related activities will commence in the coming month. The framework agreement the two countries have signed will take into consideration job and wealth creation. It is also indicated the first satellite the two countries have jointly built earlier is set to be launched from China in the coming October.
