Dashen Bank introduces 230 million Birr datacenter

Dashen Bank, one of the biggest private banks in Ethiopia, inaugurated the first of its kind in the country datacenter with a total investment of 230 million Birr.

“It is close to 99.982% availability. It is about 1. hrs. down time per year, huge benefits in Power utilization efficiency. It is also highly secured datacenter with concurrently maintainable without bringing office the operation,” said Shimelis Legesse, Chief Information Officer at Dashen Bank.



“The decanter can contain 1000 + servers which we can give hosting services for other banks or interest groups. It is benefits is beyond Dashen Bank, it will play a significant role in digital economy as it available for 24/7 for services, as we are servicing interoperability of cards and digital banking that will serve other banks customer due to the datacenter is down close to 1.6 hrs. It means a lot for banking industry,” he told New Business Ethiopia.

He stated that the software deigned network is the first in Ethiopia. “…This will help us to give the visibility of network traffic entering and leaving our data center. Moreover, it will reduce the operational cost and avoid vendor lock,” Mr. Shimelis said.



He stated that the implemented Tier 3 ready Datacenter is energy efficient, secured, Cloud enabled, highly available & concurrently maintainable. “In addition to Tier 3 datacenter, Dashen Bank also has fully implemented NOC, SOC and Software Defined Datacenter,” he said.
