The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF-Shene), which is designated as terrorist group by Ethiopian Parliament as a terrorist group, has killed a total of 392 civilians and displaced 128,200 people in East Wellega zone in Oromia Region.
East Wellega Administration head, Alemayehu Tesfa, indicated that OLF-Shene has committed the crimes along with its partners mainly armed extremists in Benishangul Gumz and Amhara regions. He indicated that OLF-Shene has been engaged in crimes against civilians and destruction of properties by taking orders from Tigray peoples Liberation Front (TPLF).
Worth 198 million properties including 76 government offices and 1,243 houses of civilians are burned and vandalized by OLF-Shene, according to Mr. Alemayehu.
He stated that OLF-Shene has also abducted 250 civilians in the zone. In an effort to counter the terrorist acts of OLF-Shene and its partners, Government security forces have arrested 312 members of these groups along with 132 guns, according to Mr. Alemayehu.
It is indicated that East Wellega zone Administration so far has assisted 54,000 displaced civilians to return back to where they used to live.
Both TPLF and OLF-Shene are designated as terrorist groups by Ethiopian Parliament a few months after the former committed treason by attacking Ethiopian military base found in Tigray region on November 3, 2020.
Since then the Ethiopian Army and TPLF has been in war while OLF-Shene has recently announced inking a deal with the latter to bring regime change overthrowing the democratically elected Government of Ethiopia led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
