A delegation of the federal Government of Ethiopia led by Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives (Ethiopian Parliament), Tagesse Chafo today arrived rebels-held Mekelle city for official visit.
The delegation is expected to asses the progress made following the peace deal signed between the Government of Ethiopia and Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), according to the information disseminated b the government.
“A delegation of the Federal Government of Ethiopia led by Hon. Tagesse Chafo has left for Mekele to oversee the implementation of important issues in the peace deal. The delegation is the first of its kind as a high-level Federal Government entity to visit Mekele in the last two years,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia posted on its offcial facebook page.
“This act is regarded as a sign that the peace accord is on the right track and moving forward.
Members of the National Dialogue Commission have also joined the delegation,” it said. Mekelle, the capital of Tigray region of Ethiopia, has been under the TPLF control after the Ethiopian troops left following the counterattack by TPLF last year.
The war started in November 2020 between the two sides has reportedly claimed over half a million people over the past two years while displacing millions with property loss of worth billions of dollars.
