Ethiopia arrests 75 corruption suspect officials

The Anti-Corruption Commission of Oromia Region of Ethiopia has arrested 75 officials suspected of corruption, an official said.

Anti-Corruption Commission Anti-corruption Commissioner Abebe kebede stated that the investigation has taken place in nine branches of the commission found in the Region.



Among so far arrested include:
– from Oromia Micro finance: Teshome Legesse, Director General; Teshome Kebede and Mesjkerem Dabba who were management committee members.
– from Shashemene City: the former mayor Feyissa Regassa; former deputy mayor Abdo Gebeyehu; and Gemeda Bedasso who was city manager.
– From Jimma zone: Fanta Bekele, Mancho Wereda (district) Administrator

In addition, the list also includes Oromia Region officials such as, Mohammed Kassim, Endalkachew Belachew and Yilma Deressa from Oromia procurement agency.

The detainees also include director general of Oromia Roads Authority and Mengistu Regassa, Bole Lemmi Industry Park head, who also served as deputy of Oromia urban development and housing.

Following the reform introduced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, Oromia Region has been taking a series of measures on corrupt officials, which includes sacking thousands from different government offices.

At federal government level currently Ethiopian government is also prosecuting dozens of corrupt officials along with their business associates.
