Eritrean President Isaias concludes Ethiopia tour

President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea, who was in Ethiopia for a historic state visit after the over two decades of hostilities between the two nations, has concluded his three days tour by attending the reopening of Eritrean Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He left Addis Ababa this morning after the reopening of the embassy. President Isaias was welcomed colorfully on Saturday morning by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and tens of thousands of people of the streets of Addis Ababa. During his stay President Isaias has attended several events, including a visit to Hawassa Industrial park and a welcoming dinner at Haile Gebrselassie Resort in Hawassa city.



Before departing to Hawassa, some 270 kilometers South of Addis Ababa, President Isaias has attended a warm welcoming lunch ceremony at the national palace hosted by President Mulatu Teshome of Ethiopia.

In Hawassa, the president has received different gifts, including a camel from the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia and a horse from the Oromia Regional State as well as traditional clothes and a bag of the finest Sidama Coffee, among others.

After returning to Addis Ababa, President Isaias and the reformist Prime Minister of Ethiopia along with some 25,000 people have attended a music concert aimed at rejoicing the restoration of love and friendship between the two countries.

Both leaders were seen rejoicing with the crowed who were expressing their happiness by the restoration of love and friendship between the two nations. After losing lives of tens of thousands of their people during the war between 1998-2000, the two countries have also went on harming their economies investing billions of dollars on their militaries they deployed on their borders.

The decision to end hostilities came after the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that his government is ready to automatically without any preconditions will start implementing the UN mediated Algiers agreement they signed in December 2000.

President Isaias’ visit has followed Ethiopia’s reformist Prime Minister’s Abiy visit to Asmara a week ago.
