Amio Engineering Private Limited Company, which has manufacturing machinery spare parts and molds for close to two decades, plans to commence tractor assembly in Ethiopia.

The company has been engaged in producing some parts of tractor over the past years and related agricultural machineries, according to Ibrahim Yassin, General manager and one of the founders of the company. Speaking to NewBusinessEthiopia.com, Mr. Ibrahim indicated that Amio Engineering has been importing tractors, which helped the company to start producing some of its parts locally.

“The demand for agricultural tractors has been increasing in Ethiopia. We are preparing ourselves to move from manufacturing the parts to fully assembling tractors in Ethiopia. This will allow us to add value and reduce the amount of hard currency the country is spending to import tractors,” he said.

“We are open to partner with the right foreign company for this new project,” he said, indicating that the vast experience of the company in producing agricultural machineries will be an asset for the new tractor assembly project of the company.

Mr. Ibrahim also stated that Amio Engineering has been exporting its agricultural products including pedal water pumps to countries like South Sudan and Zimbabwe. The company also produces seed planting agriculture machines, among others.

“We have been exporting our agricultural machines such as, pedal water pumps to South Sudan and Zimbabwe. Our experts have also traveled to these countries and provided training for months on how to use our machines and do maintenance, among others,” he said, indicating that Amio Engineering is currently locally producing some parts of tractors.

Established by two former civil servants 18 years ago, Amio Engineering has created 70 permanent jobs including highly skilled Engineers at its manufacturing plant located in Kaliti industrial zone in the capital Addis Ababa.
