Car accident consumes 23 lives in Ethiopia

Around 23 people (17 male and 6 female) reported dead on Monday in a single road traffic accident in Amhara region of Ethiopia.

The accident occurred when a medium size public transport bus carrying dozens of passengers has collided with a tricycle, according to the Amhara Mass Media Agency’s report, which quoted a traffic police officer. The bus was heading to Dembecha town, according to the report.



The report indicated that 16 were died immediately after the accident while the remaining 7 reported dead on the way to hospital. Reports show that Ethiopia has one of the largest numbers of road traffic accident casualties. The country loses over five thousand people every year with severe injuries of several thousands of people.

One of the major reasons for road traffic accident is reported reckless driving habits ad speed of the drivers, according to traffic reports. To address the challenge the government of Ethiopia has recently started introducing installation of speed limiting devices on all vehicles in the country.
