Ethiopian Athlete Selemon Barega today wins gold medal at the men’s 10,000 meters at the Olympic race taking plance in Tokyo, Japan.
Solomon completed the race in 27 minutes 43.22 seconds beating Ugandan world recordholder Joshua Cheptegei by 0.41 seconds.Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia twitted congratulating the people of Ethiopia for the victory of Athlete Selemon Barega and wished all the best for the other Ethiopia athletes set to compete in different sports in Tokyo in the coming days.
It is recalled that in 1964 Tokyo Olympic, Ethiopian marathon Athlete Abebe Bikila won the race with a new record of 2:12:11.2 four minutes and eight seconds ahead of silver medallist Basil Heatley of Great Britain.
Currently the Ugandan Athlete Joshua Cheptegei who completed today’s 10,000 meters men’s race second, is the tenth man in history to hold the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters world records concurrently, both set in 2020.
