Over 300 visually impaired in Ethiopia set to get new school

The Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia said by investing 400 million Birr it is building a school for people with low vision and blindness problem.

On Saturday the school under-construction in Addis Ababa is visited by the First Lady Zinash Tayachew, according to the information from the Office of the First Lady. When completed the new school, FBM, will be able to provide service to 320 students with low vision and blindness problem.



The school will have dormitories for all the students and their teachers. It is also indicated that it will have administration building, computer library, dining hall, and reception, among others.

Since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power in April 2018, the Office of the First Lady has been busy in building schools in different parts of Ethiopia by mobilizing resources from various sources. So far by the Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia has completed constructions of over a dozen high schools in different parts of Ethiopia.

Reports show that many youngsters especially girls in rural areas of Ethiopia quit school after completing primary schools because high schools are not available in their areas. That is one of the reasons why the Office of the First lady of Ethiopia has been focusing on the construction of high schools in remote areas of the country.

One of the income sources include the money from selling the book authored by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, entitled, Medemer. The Office also gets funding for its projects from different countries and donors.



It is recalled that on October 12, 2021, the Office of the First lady of Ethiopia has also provided modern reader gadget for 150 visually impaired people after providing them training how to use the equipment. The Office has also renovated Sebeta School for the visually impaired spending 12 million Birr.

In addition to building schools, last October the Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia has also inaugurated a grand bakery in Addis Ababa, which ahs the capacity to bake one million loaves of bread per day. The Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia has invested 217 million Birr in the grand bakery, which created jobs for 450 people.



Last September it was also indicated that the Office has inked a deal with MIDROC Investment Group to construct ten flour and bread factories in different parts of Ethiopia. With a total investment of 800 million Birr the construction of the ten projects is said will be completed within 12 months. The towns selected to get the flour and bread factories are: Semera, Jigjiga, Harar, Nekemt, Gondar, Dessie, Assosa, Hawassa, Wolaita Sodo, and Bonga.
