Huawei supports ICT development in Ethiopia's education sector

Huawei’s annual flagship summit for the regional education industry involving industry elites, experts, and related partners  is held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The summit themed, “Accelerate the Digital Education Journey for Ethiopia,” opened on Friday and discussed digital transformation and ICT development trends in education.  The aim of the summit is said to act as a platform to discuss the future of education in Ethiopia and how technology can be leveraged to improve access quality and relevance as well.



Mr. Liu Jifan, CEO of Huawei Ethiopia, said, “Huawei always keeps in mind that our purpose: is in Ethiopia, for Ethiopia, from the carrier business to the enterprise business. Huawei has cooperated with customers in many industries, including the education industry in Ethiopia. He stated that the company will keep working to ensure that its consumers gain greater value.

Dr. Zelalem Assefa MOE, Chief Executive Officer, ICT, and Digital Education said that. The Ministry of Education is developing a digital education strategy to make education more accessible and engaging through digital technology.

He also disclosed that Huawei has been a key partner in the digital transformation of the education sector in Ethiopia. Their expertise in ICT solutions has helped us develop innovative solutions that have transformed the way we teach and learn. In addition, Huawei’s decision to open an ICT Academy in our higher education institution has helped us cultivate many ICT professionals, enabling our students to communicate with and learn from experts in other industries around the world.

Mr. Cowin Cao, CEO of Huawei Ethiopia Enterprise Business Group, in his part said that “the acceleration of digital transformation adoption in the education industry is part of many national strategies.” Huawei’s focused portfolio makes next-generation technology adoption easier in the school digital transformation path, from digitizing collaborative smart classrooms to converging smart campuses, scientific research information sharing networks, and talent cultivation.”

In the summit, Huawei Global Public Sector Industry Expert, Enterprise Business Group, and presidents of well-known Ethiopian universities were invited to hold a special round table discussion. Challenges and opportunities for promoting technology adoption in education, as well as ideas and thinking about digital education, such as improving school management effectiveness, are discussed.



In the summit, different presentations related to education have been delivered. Among them was the survey of Debre Tabor University’s data center, which was built and completed using Huawei Technologies products, as explained by the president of the university, Dr. Anegaregn Gashaw.

He was also pointed out that the project shows the attention that Huawei has given to education centers. In his speech, the president thanked Huawei Technologies and stated that Debretabor University will continue with updated technological works.

Huawei recognizes the importance of education and believes that technology can play a significant role in improving it. The company has been working closely with governments and educational institutions around the world to provide innovative solutions that enhance learning outcomes.

This conference is intended to provide participants the opportunity to network with other industry leaders, explore new collaborations, and learn about emerging trends in the education sector.

The last education summit was held on October 28, 2021, and discussed how to explore together the use of innovative technologies that accelerate the digital journey of the education industry, facilitating innovation in teaching and management models.
