The 2022 Hult Prize Addis Ababa University On-campus programs that encourages students to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy, and education officially kick off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

HULT prize competition on campus 2022, part of an annual, global competition that crowd-sources ideas from university level students. The entrepreneurship competition challenges students to build businesses that contribute to solving a pressing social issue, and be a strong enough business idea, capable of making a profit.



With a US$1,000,000 global startup prize as its anchor activity, the Hult Prize has brought impact-focused programs, events, and training to over a million students globally, creating a pathway for youth everywhere to take action to build a better world.

The Hult Prize competition is a global movement that is student-centered and that revolves around businesses that are aimed at solving various social problems across the world. It brings together some of the brightest and most innovative students from all over the globe in a means to create an environment that can foster innovation of business ideas that are geared towards solving social problems.

Each year, the Hult prize gives a theme of an existing social problem in the world which students are expected to come up with business ideas that revolve around it. The theme is given by the former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton with the theme for the year 2022 being “Getting the world back to work.”

Kirubel Engidawork, Campus Director, Hult Prize Addis Ababa University on the occasion remarked “Its not everyday that you have an opportunity to change the world. Its time for Addis Ababa University students to show how AAU is dedicated to impact and that they can make a difference.



This year’s edition of the of the Hult Prize AAU on Campus is organized with the sponsorship of Kazana Group, a local holding company with a portfolio of 16+ companies operating in a diverse array of industries & sectors.
Mr. Addis Alemayehou, Chairman of Kazana Group for his part emphasizing the role of the private sector in supporting youth entrepreneurship said ‘’The private sector must be considered as the primary development agent that fosters an enabling environment for Ethiopia’s demographic dividend, mostly represented by the youth, to build innovative businesses and create much-needed job opportunities.’’

This year, the Hult Prize at AAU program will contain 4 Events, 3 of them are training and mentorship sessions while the rest would be the final competition. The top 3 teams chosen will compete in the regional finals held on different campuses worldwide.

The trainings are half-day sessions with around 200 participants expected to take part and will be given by experts in the Business and Entrepreneurship sector. The topics to be discussed in the training include Business, Design thinking, Human Centered design and Basics of a pitch.

The Hult Prize is the world’s biggest engine for the launch of for-good, for-profit start-ups emerging from universities across the world. In nearly a decade, and together with over 2,500 staff and volunteers around the world, the movement has deployed more than $50 M of capital into the sector and mobilized more than one million young people to re-think the future of business as it continues to breed disruptive innovation on college and university campuses across 100 plus countries.
