Within one week period Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) has seized worth 104.6 million Birr contraband goods from illegal traders.
About 100.9 million Birr worth merchandizes were captured from illegal traders who tried to smuggle the goods into the country, while the remaining are captured from individuals who tried to smuggle out merchandizes of the country, according to ECC.
Awash, Hawassa, and Kombolcha customs posts are the major branches of ECC, which seized the goods from the illegal traders. ECC indicated on its official social media page that different clothes, electronics, cosmetics, narcotic drugs, firearms, medicines and, coffee are among the major goods captured by the ECC in collaboration with federal and regional police forces.
Reports show that over the past weeks, expanding its operations ECC has been seizing on average worth between 80-100 million Birr merchandizes every week from illegal cross-border traders.
