Asphalt concrete road of 60.2 kilometers linking Ethiopia with South Sudan has completed last week, said Ethiopian Roads Authority, the state enterprise.

The 60.2 kilometers Dima to Rad road project is constructed by another state enterprise Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation. The Government of Ethiopia has invested 856 million Birr (about $22.4 million at the current exchange rate), according to the report of Ethiopian Roads Authority, which published the news in Amharic language on it website.

It is indicated that Ethiopian Design and Supervision Works Corporation, another state enterprise, was engaged in consulting and supervision of the road construction. The new road is expected to contribute a lot in facilitation of trade and social interactions between the people of the two neighboring East African countries.

The route will enable Ethiopia to easily export some of its produces from western Ethiopia such as, coffee, honey, fruits, and spices benefiting the farmers in the area, the report indicated. Initially the 60.2 kilometers road from Dima town of Ethiopia to Rad town of South Sudan was gravel and drivers were facing difficulty using it.
